With Spring comes spring cleaning around the resort and studio grounds. Although we are enjoying being outdoors and in the sun, the studio is always ready for a visit. If you need that special gift, or just feeling creative-and don't mind messy fingers, give us a call.

This group of girls was focused and creative! The glaze was flying but the final results are fantastic.
We were just visited by a girl scout troop from Park Rapids who got creative with clay in the studio . As I've said before, watching them create and have fun is a lot of fun for us. Here they are in action, next I'll post the results!!
As winter releases it's grip on the northland I used a day of warm weather to get a few shots from outside the studio. Now that the snow is melting and the grounds are starting to dry up the Raku firing equipment is again accessible, I think a firing is in the near future.....
Kris has been having some fun of her own in the studio working with combining glass and pottery to discover what can be created with the two together. The silica in the glaze combines very nicely with glass to somewhat mix and bond together. The pieces are beautiful with the very neat crackle effect that develops in the glass. Crackling is caused by the different rates of expansion and contraction of the glass vs. the clay when subject to the kiln heat. The glaze used in this piece is called "Midas Touch".
To tell the truth, I don't know if there is name for this so it'll just call it a knitters bowl. The ball of yarn goes in the bowl with the end pulled through the slot carved out of the side. As the knitter pulls yarn while knitting, the yarn ball spins in the bowl instead of rolling around. It's a great idea by whoever thought of it. And the best part, you could make your own of your very own design and glazed to perfection in colors that match you, we can show you how.
Isn't this the neatest bird house you've seen? Kris got an idea for this somewhere and of course sat down at the wheel and nailed it. It's manganese stoneware with glazed highlights with some of the clay left unglazed-the lighter tan body. Plus the little stem on top acts as a hanger!
With the change to the new website design all of the old blog posts went with the old site. If you want to see something again, respond to this post and I'll give it my best shot to find it and post it again. I think the transition went smoothly and our new site is up! If you don't see a whole new look and site delete your browser history so the new site will load. I am happy with the look of the new site but let us know what YOU think! We still have links to the resort site and Facebook pages but we also added an option for an email newsletter and links to our on-line store at Storenvy. Have a look around........
